Moodle says the video is too large
Short answer: There is no single Moodle limit: your school sets one for its site, and a teacher can set a lower one for an assignment. Moodle shows it next to the upload area, as Maximum size for new files. Make a copy under that size.
Before you compress
- Check the limit next to the assignment's own upload area: it can be lower than elsewhere on the site.
- Ask your teacher whether a link to the video, for example from Google Drive or OneDrive, is accepted instead.
- If only part of the video is needed, a shorter video fits more easily.
Make a copy that fits
- Open Clipmino and choose the video, or share it to Clipmino from your gallery.
- Type the size Moodle shows as the maximum size, from 2 to 500 MB. Moodle counts 1 MB as 1,048,576 bytes and Clipmino as 1,000,000, so a copy of that number of MB fits.
- Clipmino compresses on your phone and checks the copy before it says done. Then upload the copy to Moodle.
Your original is not changed. The copy is saved in Movies/Clipmino.
When a copy will not fit
Long, detailed or fast-moving videos need a minimum amount of data to stay watchable. If Clipmino cannot make a useful copy under the limit, it says so instead of reporting a success. Keep a shorter part of the video.
Which videos Clipmino accepts
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and 3GP files from 1 second to 20 minutes and up to 2 GB, with H.264, HEVC, VP8, VP9 or AV1 video, where your phone has a decoder for that codec. Full compatibility.
