Clipmino tells you why an export stopped. Start with the exact message you saw; your original video is never changed.

Supported videos and limits
Clipmino accepts common phone and web video files, as long as your device has a decoder for the video codec.
- Containers
- MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, 3GP
- Video codecs
- H.264, HEVC, VP8, VP9, AV1, where your device has the decoder
- Audio
- AAC, Vorbis, Opus, AMR-NB, or no audio
- Not accepted
- AVI, FLV, WMV, MPEG-TS
- Source duration
- 1 second to 20 minutes
- Source resolution
- Up to 4K, where the device can decode it
- Source file size
- Up to 2 GB
- Maximum size you request
- 2 MB to 500 MB, where one MB is 1,000,000 bytes
- Output
- Always MP4 with H.264 video, and AAC audio when the source has sound. Your resolution and frame rate are kept when Clipmino can keep them, and stepped down when it cannot
- Capture date
- Written into the copy's file when the source carries one; a source without a date produces an undated copy
Clipmino is not a format converter: whatever the source, the copy is an MP4. To use a file outside these lists, convert it with a trusted tool, then select the new copy.
“This video format is not supported yet.”
The video's container or codec is not in the lists above. Convert it with a trusted tool, then select the new copy.
“This video exceeds the current size, duration, or resolution limit.”
The source is outside the limits above: 1 second to 20 minutes, up to 4K, and up to 2 GB. A video whose file declares more than 60 frames per second is also refused with this message.
“Your device cannot decode this video.”
When you select a video, Clipmino checks whether your device has a decoder for its video codec. If it does not, the video is rejected with this message before compression starts. The check looks only at the codec, so a video that passes it can still fail during compression.
“Your device cannot export this video with these settings.”
Your phone's video encoder cannot produce the copy Clipmino planned for this video. The app does not offer an action for this message.
“The exported video did not pass our checks.”
Clipmino checks every copy: its size, that it decodes, its duration, its orientation, and its audio. A copy that fails is not accepted. Retry; if it happens again, write to us with the details listed in Contact us.
HDR videos
HDR is not rejected. HDR sources are tone-mapped to standard range, and before an HDR export starts Clipmino shows this warning:
This video is HDR. The copy will be standard range, so its colour will look different from the original.
The requested size cannot be reached
Enter a target between 2 and 500 MB; in a Pro batch the limit applies to each video. Clipmino only accepts a file it has checked and that actually fits.
“This size is too small for the current export settings.”
The size you entered is below what these export settings need. Choose a larger size.
“This size is too small for the current export settings. Raise the size limit or shorten the video.”
Choose a larger size, or keep a shorter part of the video (see Trim to part of a video).
“We could not fit this video within your size limit.”
Clipmino could not produce a checked copy under your limit, and offers Adjust size limit. When the size is too small from the start, the button is Adjust size limit or trim instead.
Choose a larger maximum, or keep a shorter part of the video so the whole limit goes to that part (see Trim to part of a video). Long, detailed, or fast-moving footage needs a minimum amount of data to stay usable, and required audio needs its own share.
The source's own resolution and frame rate are the first candidate for the output. Clipmino steps down from them only when it must, for reasons such as the maximum size you requested or the limits the app works within. It does not raise a source above what it already is.
Trim to part of a video
On the configuration screen, a strip of eight frames sits under the video with two handles: one for the start and one for the end. Drag them to choose the part you need. Clipmino compresses only that part, and the maximum size applies to it alone.
- Trimming works with a single video. Videos in a Pro batch cannot be trimmed.
- The copy is checked against the part you chose. For a trimmed copy the result shows only its size, with no reduction percentage, and the preview compares it with the same moment in the original.
- Clipmino never offers to remove the original after a trimmed copy. See Removing the original.
“This video is now shorter than it was when you chose part of it. Choose it again and trim it.”
The source file changed after you set the handles, and the part you chose no longer exists in full. Clipmino stops rather than move your selection. Select the video again and set the start and end once more.
Removing the original
Clipmino never changes your original. After a copy is saved and checked, it can offer to remove the original to free space, and shows the exact size of the original, which is the space removing it frees.
Clipmino does not delete anything itself and does not preselect anything. If you accept the offer, Android shows its own system dialog and asks you to confirm. If you decline, in Clipmino or in Android's dialog, nothing is removed and the copy stays in Movies/Clipmino.
The offer appears only when all of these are true:
- Your phone runs Android 11 or later.
- The copy has been saved and checked, and it is still there and can be verified.
- The original is a video in your phone's media library, such as one you chose with the photo picker.
- The copy is not trimmed.
So if you don't see the offer, the usual reasons are: the copy was trimmed, the video came from a cloud provider or a file manager rather than your phone's media library, the copy was moved or deleted before the check, or the phone runs Android 10.
The source or output is unavailable
“We can no longer access this video.”
Access to a selected video can expire when a cloud provider revokes a temporary link or the file is moved. Open the original app or provider, make the video available offline, then select it again. If the file became shorter after you trimmed it, see the trim message.
“There is not enough free space to create a copy.”
An export needs room for a working file as well as the final copy. Free device storage and retry.
“We could not save the copy.”
Saving to Movies/Clipmino failed. Free device storage and retry. If the copy was already checked, the app retries only the saving.
A successful copy appears in Movies/Clipmino; give your gallery a moment to index it. A copy that was interrupted before it could be checked is removed rather than left as a file that will not play.
Cancelled or interrupted work
You can cancel from Clipmino or from its progress notification, and the app cleans up its temporary files. Android may also interrupt long media work on its own.
“The previous export was interrupted.”
If Clipmino finds an interrupted batch when you reopen it, choose Retry remaining videos or Discard batch. A retry always starts from your original video, never from a previous attempt.
“Your phone needs to cool down before continuing.”
Clipmino stops when Android reports that the phone is too hot. Let it cool down, then retry; the app offers to retry.
App language
Clipmino is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi, Indonesian and Arabic. Arabic is shown right to left.
- On Android 13 and later you can choose Clipmino's language separately from your phone's: Settings → Apps → Clipmino → Language.
- Before Android 13, Clipmino follows your phone's language.
Messages in the app appear in the language it is using. This page is in English; the message list above shows the English wording.
Purchase and restore Pro
Clipmino includes five free exports every 30 days, up to 720p; only an export that was saved successfully counts against them. Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription and unlocks unlimited local exports up to 1080p and batches of up to ten videos. A subscription renews until you cancel it in Google Play; Pro bought before subscriptions were offered stays active.
- Check that Google Play is signed in to the account used for the purchase.
- Open Clipmino and choose Restore purchase in Settings or on the Pro screen.
- If purchase status is unavailable, reconnect to the internet and try once more.
A pending purchase unlocks Pro only after Google Play completes it, and a cancelled or failed purchase costs you nothing. Refunds are handled by Google Play under its policies and applicable law: see the Google Play refund instructions.
“Choose no more than 10 videos.”
A Pro batch holds up to 10 videos. Select 10 or fewer.
